Continuing his incredible run of form, Spain’s Josep Garcia (KTM) has ended this year’s FIM International Six Days of Enduro (ISDE) as the overall fastest individual rider.
The Spaniard entered the final day of racing at the FIM ISDE in Le Puy-En-Velay, France with a lead of almost one minute over Italy’s Andrea Verona (GASGAS). With just the eleven-lap Final Cross Test to complete, Garcia was near-assured of the overall win, but the Spaniard still wanted to go out on a high.
From the drop of the gate, the battle for victory was on between Garcia and Verona. The Spaniard took the holeshot and led, while Verona overtook teammate Alex Salvini (Husqvarna) to move into second.
Midway through the race, the duo were wheel-to-wheel until a mistake by Garcia allowed Verona through, the Italian not needing a second invitation and put his GASGAS out front. Garcia regrouped and fought back but would run out of laps as Verona denied him a Day Six win.
Nevertheless, the runner-up result would be more than enough to secure his second FIM ISDE individual victory in as many years. With Verona second, Great Britain’s Nathan Watson (Honda) completed the top three.
In the Enduro1 category, Verona ended his week at the overall winner. France’s Zach Pichon (Sherco) was runner-up and best-placed Junior rider. Great Britain’s Jamie McCanney (Husqvarna) completed the top three.
Garcia added the Enduro2 victory to his FIM ISDE winning tally. The Spaniard led home Watson in second, with Great Britain’s Steve Holcombe (Beta) third.
The Enduro3 class was won by Sweden’s Mikael Persson (Husqvarna). Spain’s Jaume Betriu (KTM) and France’s Leo Le Quere (Sherco) were second and third respectively.
