With every edition of the 6DAYS® FIM Enduro of Nations there are a lot of moving parts to consider when organising an event of its magnitude. As the Director of the International Sustainability Commission for the FIM, Kattia Juárez along with the national federation, local organiser, the enduro delegate, and the wider team of out in the field and who are monitoring emissions are collectively very active each day in ensuring that the 6DAYS® Italia fulfils the requirements of the FIM RIDE Green programme. This is not only in a manner that creates a minimal carbon footprint, but also leaves a lasting and positive influence on the Bergamo community.

An event like the 6DAYS® Italia is a huge operation, but it’s important to see it with a sustainable vision too,” says Juárez.

I feel that our Enduro community already knows very well how to do the things within the Ride Green programme. The use of environmental mats for working on the motorcycles, having set locations to put waste oils, among other things, are becoming second nature in everyone’s sustainable event management.

For fans of Enduro and the 6DAYS®, the racing will always be the primary focus, but as Juárez explains, it is important to think further afield than that. Methods to raise awareness of positive sustainability are key to creating a lasting legacy of the sport among its host communities.

We see our sport as a platform to create a positive change. We see the event beyond entertainment purposes. We are thinking of Enduro and the 6DAYS® as a way to raise awareness among its fan base. So if we create a favourable, purpose driven event, we can create constructive steps towards sustainability in our fan base.

“At the 6DAYS®, we are trying to give a beneficial legacy to the community hosting the race. We see the 6DAYS® with big potential as a platform to conduct research, touch the community in a helpful way, incorporate the local schools in sustainability, and be generally well received by all.”

While Juárez is tightly involved in the FIM Ride Green initiatives, she feels the younger generation are already on the right track to ensuring a bright future for the 6DAYS®, well beyond its one-hundredth edition.

Honestly, it’s not really a case of informing people to stick to the rules anymore. I believe our younger generation are already very aware about their future and want to compensate for their emissions.

“I would say though that it’s a case of starting with the little things first and building from there. Become community aware and act in a positive way. At the end of the day, as fans of Enduro, we are also fans of nature too.”
